Goodnight Keith Moon? Really?

June 9, 2011 at 8:19 pm , by Bryan

I am not really sure what to make of this one but…

On July 1, 2011 the children’s book parody, “Goodnight Keith Moon” by Bruce Worden and Clare Cross will be available for order. It is a parody of the 1947 children’s classic “Goodnight Moon.”

To be honest, I was a bit taken aback when I first saw it. Its kind of morbid in that it portrays the room where Keith has just died (and manages to drag Mama Cass into the whole thing, as she coincidentally died in the very same room a few years earlier).  Really, I cant begin to explain it, you just have to read it for yourself. On the positive side, its a dead on parody of “Goodnight Moon”. Otherwise its kind of disturbing and a bit too morose. I kept trying to find something I liked in it but it never really happened. What do you guys think?

I didn’t like it, in fact it made me down right sad. The fact that Mama Cass was there made it even WORSE. I mean, a lot of people still believe she died choking on a sandwich. Why are people making fools of the talented and deceased? You know what? I happen to be an artist myself, and I’ll remember this, so that when Bruce and his little friend Clare pass along, I can do something just as spiteful. What an awful book. I love The Who >:I

Jhett, a five year old could come up with better rhymes and pictures. Go watch My Little Pony and learn how to love and feel.

Person on da webs, I couldn’t agree with you more. The book is a morbid disgrace.

This is tasteless. Insulting even.

Personally, I disagree. I started by appreciating how much it is a “dead on parody” of the original, as you stated. A quality parody is not an easy thing to craft. The second thing I appreciated about it was the quality of the illustrations: there’s a great balance of detail and broad color effects, which is often a hallmark of good books for kids.

When I thought about Mr. Moon, of course I was sad. But you may recall, he participated in one or two parodies himself. Indeed, he parodied himself while he was still with us (think of the interview in “The Kids Are Alright” with the dominatrix).

I shared the book with other Who fans, and got much the same positive reaction. So, I guess tastes differ.

Doug, from a technical perspective, they nailed the parody and the illustrations were very good. I see your point there.

I just think the entire concept was morbid and in poor taste.

You are also right that tastes differ. That is certainly the case here.

About Me

I am just one person who also happens to be a huge Who fan. The legendary Keith Moon has always been a fascinating figure for me. When I heard that there might be a movie about Keith produced by none other than Roger Daltrey, I had to build this site to unleash my enthusiasm.
